DeForest Dominates Game One Of The Season With A 4 Goal Margin

The DeForest Norskies got off to the best season start that anyone could ask for. They defeated Homestead 4-0 in a highly anticipated rematch. Both sides met last November in the state semifinal game, which ended 2-1 for DeForest. Despite the match being a neutral-venue game hosted at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, the Norskies played as if they were in front of their home faithful.

When asked about his team’s game plan, DeForest star winger Antonio Anchondo illustrated that they wanted to play very direct right from the start–attacking quickly and putting pressure on Homestead’s defense. They executed it perfectly. The Norskie attack made frequent weak-side runs behind the opposing back line, where they were consistently left wide open with loads of space to drive into.

If I had to name a man of the match, it would undoubtedly be awarded to Anchondo. He factored into all four of his team’s goals by scoring one and assisting the other three. His lone goal was incredible; a shot with great pace and accuracy from just within the box that found the top corner. Opposition should come to expect this level of quality when facing Anchondo throughout this season.

Forward Landon Adams also played exceptionally. He opened the scoring by beating Homestead’s right back and slotting the ball past their goalkeeper. Adams finished the match with a goal and an assist.

Although DeForest have been moved up to Division 1 by the WIAA, it appears that they will still remain very competitive in an extremely demanding division. The Norskies' next match will be on August 28th, at 3:00 pm as they travel to play against Madison La Follette at Goodman Pitch, home of the Madison College Wolfpack.
