Week 11 - State Tournament

Chase Thomas - Catholic Memorial - Goalkeeper

A freshman goalkeeper made quite the impression this year. He especially stepped up at state. Only allowing two goals. his ten total saves elevated the Crusaders to a state championship win.

Thomas Began - Whitefish Bay - Defender

Began began the D2 final by scoring the first goal of the game. He also helped his team allow one goal across two state tournament matches—including a shutout over Brookfield Central.

Jonathan Krause - Madison West - Defender

This senior captain led his team to the state title. The Regents only allowed one goal all weekend and shutout a dangerous Marquette attack, in part to his great efforts.

Kyler Eernisse - Oostburg - Defender

The standout defender for Oostburg this weekend was Kyler Eernisse. His defensive efforts led to a 2-1 victory over MCDS in the semifinal and a 1-0 overtime win over Sturgeon Bay in the championship match. His lofted ball in the final also led to the Flying Dutchman's winner in the final.

Tariq Khan - Marquette - Winger

Khan scored his first goal this season with an overtime screamer against Hudson. After the Raiders were able to force a penalty shootout, Khan scored the game winning PK to send the Hilltoppers to the D1 final.

Alec Jacquart - Whitefish Bay - Midfielder

The senior captain dished three assists in two state tournament games. His first assist was a lofted through-ball in the semifinal against Brookfield Central. In the final, the game’s opening goal came from a trivela assist from Jacquart. He then assisted their third goal to secure the state championship for the Blue Dukes.

Liam West - Notre Dame - Midfielder

Notre Dame’s best player all season was able to control the midfield in both state matches. He scored an equalizing goal just before halftime in the final against Catholic Memorial to give the Tritons some much-needed momentum going into the second half.

Cade Dirkse - Oostburg - Midfielder/Winger

Dirkse made a great case to be our player of the week—A late game winning goal against MCDS secured their spot in the final. Then, in the final minute of overtime in the against Sturgeon Bay, he took a shot off the inside of the post to give Oostburg their second ever WIAA state title.

Landon Adams - DeForest - Winger/Forward

The junior forward made his mark at the state tournament by scoring a late winning goal against Homestead in the semifinal. He then scored his team’s lone goal in the final loss to Whitefish Bay.

Louie Rowe - Madison West - Striker

The 6’0 205 lb striker earns our player of the week with two game winning goals! In the semifinal, his constant press led to a mistake by a Brookfield East defender which he finished on an open net. A 75th minute winner in the final against Marquette capped off a tremendous junior season.

Cal Olbrantz - Catholic Memorial - Forward/Striker

Olbrantz also made a good case for winning the player of the week; His two early goals in the semifinal against Somerset set the tone for the game. He also scored a quick goal in the final vs Notre Dame, putting pressure on the Tritons for the rest of the match.
