East Takes Sun Prairie Derby For Second Straight Year
The Sun Prairie East Cardinals faced the West Wolves in the fourth ever Sun Prairie Derby. This game is one of the highest attended (outside of state) and most energetic games all year. I played in the first ever Sun Prairie Derby, so I have a unique understanding of what this game means to each of the players. Last year’s contest ended 2-0 for East. The goals were scored by Miles Churchill and former Cardinal, Lucas Albright.
This year was much the same—even under a new coaching staff, the Wolves were unable to generate much offensively. West’s senior goalkeeper Kevin Flores held East at bay in the first half. However, in the second half, West opted to sub in sophomore goalkeeper Dean Medina. In the 57th minute, East forward Ebrima Sowe took a shot on net that flew by the keeper for the only goal of the match.
Both squads look to finish their year strong as they head into the back stretch of the season.
Post-match interview with East’s goalscorer, Ebrima Sowe, on the team’s preparation and mentality for the game.
